FOREST, Va. – Sophomore Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./ Patrick Henry) was named the ODAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. Whittemore has pitched 38 innings this season and has a 5-0 record with two saves.
The Randolph-Macon softball team has gotten off to a 10-0 start to the season, the best start to a season in program history. The school started the 2007 season with a 7-0 record.
Whittemore pitched in four games this past week, earning three wins and one save. She first pitched a shutout in the 3-0 win over Eastern. Then Whittemore helped the Yellow Jackets beat #6 Manhattanville 4-2 on Friday, she threw seven strikeouts and only allowed two hits in that game.
She earned her third win on Saturday in the 4-3 victory of Case Western Reserve and then earned a save in the 2-0 win over Buffalo State.
In those four games, Whittemore threw 18 strikeouts. She has a 1.29 ERA for the season. Whittemore's five wins is the second best in the ODAC.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday with a home double-header against Gettysburg at 12 p.m.
