LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Randolph-Macon softball team was ranked 17th in the final national poll by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

The Yellow Jackets moved one spot after being No. 16 in the final poll of the regular season. R-MC had been as high as No. 13 in the poll during the regular season.

It was the highest ranking for R-MC in a final poll. In 2013, the Yellow Jackets were No. 22 in the final NFCA poll.

R-MC faced two teams ranked in the final poll. ODAC rival Virginia Wesleyan won the national championship and finished first in the final poll. Christopher Newport was tied for 18th. The Yellow Jackets swept the Captains in a home doubleheader on March 16. Manhattanville received votes in the final poll, a team R-MC defeated 4-2 in the Beach Blast tournament in Virginia Beach on March 3.

Under head coach Kevin Proffitt, Randolph-Macon set a program record with 35 victories in a season. The Yellow Jackets earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and hosted the Ashland, Virginia Regional. R-MC was regional runner-up for the second time in the past three seasons.
