#2 Softball Falls to #1 Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC Tournament

SALEM, Va. – The #2 R-MC softball team were defeated by #1 Virginia Wesleyan 4-0 in the winner's bracket of the ODAC Softball Tournament. R-MC will await the winner of the Lynchburg, Emory & Henry game for an 8 p.m. game tonight, with the winner of that matchup going to the finals on Sunday.

R-MC are now 33-8 this season with a 2-1 record in the ODAC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets went 2-0 on day one with a 3-2 win over EMU and a 5-4 walk-off win over Roanoke.

Recording hits for the Yellow Jackets in the game were sophomore Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va./ Essex), junior Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va./ Clover Hill) and freshman Taylor Sanderford (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee).

Sophomore pitcher Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./ Patrick Henry) threw 60 strikes and four strikeouts.

Freshman Kayley Reese (Lake Mary, Fl./ Lake Mary) had one stolen base for the Yellow Jackets.

Lynchburg and Emory & Henry play at 5 p.m., R-MC will play the winner of that game at 8 p.m.
