Softball Postponed in 6th Inning, Yellow Jackets Ranked 3rd in Atlantic Region

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Today's softball game at Bridgewater was suspended in the sixth inning due to lightning and severe storms. R-MC, the third-ranked team in the Atlantic Region, led 5-2 in the top of the sixth inning before the game was called.

R-MC will reschedule the double-header to a later date.

Junior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va./ Brunswick) had an outstanding six innings with two hits, three runs, two stolen bases and one rbi in the game. Junior Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va./ Clover Hill) sent Jones home in the sixth inning. She also recorded two hits in the game.

Sophomore Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./ Patrick Henry) had five strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The Yellow Jackets were ranked #3 in the Atlantic Region in the first NCAA regional rankings. That marks the highest regional rank in program history. R-MC is currently ranked #18 in the latest NFCA poll. To view the regional rankings, click here

R-MC is 27-7 overall and 10-6 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets are currently scheduled to play Roanoke on Saturday with game one starting at 1:30 p.m. The ODAC tournament begins Friday, April 28th.
