Thompson Throws No Hitter, #16 Softball Sweeps Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The #16 R-MC softball team earned two ODAC victories over Sweet Briar on Tuesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won game won 10-0 and game two by a score of 26-0.

In game one, freshman Shelby Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./ St. Margaret's) went 3 for 3 at bat with two runs and one rbi. Also going perfect in game one at bat was senior Jen Balcom (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan), who went 2 of 2.

Junior Brandi Mulvena (Farnham, Va./ Rappahannock) also had a great day at bat, she had two hits, two runs and two rbi with one double.

R-MC scored seven runs in the first inning off of eight hits. The Yellow Jackets then added three runs in the top of the third inning.

Sophomore pitcher Maddie Holcomb (Goochland, Va./ Goochland) earned her third win of the season throwing seven strikeouts and giving up just one hit.

Freshman Cameron Thompson (Virginia Beach, Va./ Kellam) threw a no hitter in the 26-0 win in the second game of the double-header. Thompson threw seven strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The second game saw the Yellow Jackets score 26 runs off of 22 hits. Sophomore Casey Abernethy (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) had three hits, three runs and four rbi in the game.

Sophomore Savanah Wood (Tappahannock, Va./ Essex) and junior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va./ Brunswick) both recorded triples in the game.

Freshman Taylor Sanderford (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) had two runs, one hit, two rbi and a stolen base in the game.

R-MC will be back in action this Friday with a double-header against Shenandoah. Game one will start at 3 p.m.
