ASHLAND, Va. – The R-MC men's tennis team won its second straight ODAC match in as many days with a 9-0 victory over Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon. R-MC won 3-0 in doubles and did not drop a set in six singles matches the Hornets.
The Yellow Jackets are now 3-1 in the ODAC with a 5-4 overall record.
At doubles, the #1 pair of freshman Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va./ Mills Godwin) and junior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va./ St. Christopher's) won 8-1. At number two and three doubles, pairs of senior Alex Curnow (Culpeper, Va./ Midlothian) and sophomore Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va./ James River) and sophomore Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va./ West Springfield) and senior Pablo Bordas (Caracas, Venezuela/ Briar Woods) won 8-2, 8-0 respectively.
Haines picked up his second victory of the day winning at #1 singles 7-6, 6-0 over Matt Hwang of the Hornets.
Carter would win at #2 singles beating Zach Frack 6-2, 7-6. He won the second set tiebreaker 7-5 to win the point for R-MC.
Also picking up wins were Sarver at number three, winning 6-1, 6-0 and Curnow at the four role, putting up a 6-4, 6-4 win. Both were a part of two points for the R-MC team.
At number five, senior Stuart McCroskey (Newport News, Va./ Menchville) won 6-0, 6-2 and at number six, Bordas won without dropping a game 6-0, 6-0.
R-MC will be back in action with a home match against Virginia Wesleyan on April 6.
