The R-MC men’s soccer team is excited to announce Andrew Schaefer ’16 as the new assistant coach.
Schaefer played four year at Randolph-Macon from 2012-2016 making 61 appearances and served as team captain during his senior year. As a senior, Schaefer was the team’s leading goal scorer and helped lead a major turnaround for the program.
“Andrew is a great addition to our staff. He is a former captain, well respected by the R-MC community, and one of the finest leaders I have ever had the privilege to coach,” Randolph-Macon men’s soccer head coach Josh Laux said.
Schaefer was an assistant men’s soccer coach at Cabrini University this past season, where he helped the team make it all the way to the conference championship. The Cavaliers finished the season at 12-8-1
“Andrew gained valuable experience this past year as the assistant at Cabrini University and is well prepared to help take us up another level,” Laux continued. “It’s great to have him back on campus. The program is lucky to have him.”
Schaefer is originally from Allentown, Pa. He attended Emmaus High School where he was a standpoint forward and team captain.
Schaefer will join the R-MC men’s program that went 10-5-3 in 2016, finished at the top end of the conference, and made it to the ODAC semifinals. R-MC received national votes during the year and had a number of signature wins. The team had its best conference finish since 2004 and scored the most goals since 2005.
Former R-MC assistant, Corey Sindle, has taken an assistant coaching position at Wheaton College in Massachusetts.
