NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Kyle Geblein (Hagerstown, Md./ Smithsburg) and senior Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./ E.C. Glass) led the R-MC men's lacrosse team as defense shined in the 12-6 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night. R-MC are 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC. Following Wednesday's results, R-MC have locked up a spot in the ODAC Tournament.
Junior Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./ Midlothian) led the offense for R-MC, scoring five goals.
The Marlins took an early 2-0 lead in the first minute of the contest. R-MC would storm back with four unanswered goals from junior Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown), Muncie, junior Tait Buttrey (Damascus, Md./ Damascus) and freshman Colin DiSesa (Ashland, Va./ Hanover).
The Yellow Jackets scored the only two goals of the second period, both from Muncie, and increased the lead to 7-3 at half time.
Wesleyan scored two goals early in the third period to cut down the Yellow Jackets lead to just two. R-MC would score five of the next six goals in the contest to finish the game with a 12-6 win.
Davies had an outstanding game in goal, only allowing six goals and making 13 saves. Geblein and the R-MC defense allowed the least amount of goals this season in ODAC play. Geblein led the Yellow Jackets with two caused turnovers.
Senior Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md./ Severna Park) tallied three assists in the game, bringing his season total to 38. DiSesa, Camilliere, junior Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, Va./ St. Christopher's) and junior Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga./ Roswell) all finished with two points.
R-MC will return with a road ODAC game against Shenandoah on Saturday at 1 p.m.
