Taylor Scores 27 on Senior Night as R-MC Men's Basketball Beats BC 64-56

ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) tallied a season-high 27 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team defeated Bridgewater 64-56 in ODAC action Wednesday evening in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Combined with Guilford's 65-60 loss to Emory & Henry, the Yellow Jackets (17-7, 13-2 ODAC) are alone in first place in the ODAC standings with one game remaining.

After a free throw by junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton), senior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) and Taylor nailed three-pointers to give R-MC a 7-0 lead 4:15 into the contest. The Eagles (6-18, 3-14 ODAC) tallied seven straight to level the score at 7-7 with 12:40 left in the first half. A layup by sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) capped a 14-4 spurt as the home team went up 21-11 with seven minutes remaining. BC cut the deficit in half at 24-19 with 4:15 left before a Taylor layup ended a 7-2 run as the Yellow Jackets led 31-21 with 20 seconds left. The Eagles got a late bucket and trailed 31-23 at the break. Taylor had 12 points and two assists in the first half, while sophomore Grayson Midulla (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) added seven points.

BC started the second half with an 11-5 spurt to pull within two at 36-34 with 16:20 left. A layup by sophomore Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) gave R-MC a six-point lead at 43-37 before the Eagles scored six straight to knot the score at 43-43 with 13:13 remaining. The Yellow Jacket defense would hold BC scoreless over the next eight minutes. Taylor scored seven and Midulla added six as R-MC scored 16 straight points to give the Yellow Jackets a 59-43 advantage with 5:15 left. The Eagles pulled with seven with one minute left before R-MC finished with a 64-58 victory.

Midulla scored 16 for the Yellow Jackets, including nine from the free throw line.

R-MC held a 38-37 advantage on the glass. Noe and Midulla paced the victors with six rebounds each.

Randolph-Macon concludes its regular season schedule on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at Lynchburg.
