Taylor Tallies 21 as R-MC Men's Basketball Wins 77-53 at BC

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) posted a season-high 21 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team registered a 77-53 victory at Bridgewater in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (8-5, 4-0 ODAC) won their fifth straight game and seventh in the past eight outings. They remain in a tie for first place in the ODAC with Guilford.

Taylor hit nine field goals, including a pair of three-pointers. He was 7 for 8 inside the arc.

R-MC had 40 points in the paint, 14 second-chance points and 42 points off the bench.

Taylor hit a three-pointer and a pair of layups as R-MC jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead three minutes into the contest. Sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) nailed a trey with 13:30 left as the Yellow Jackets took a 19-7 lead. A layup by senior Boris Ngundji (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) gave the visitors a 22-9 advantage midway through the first half. The Eagles scored seven straight to cut the deficit to six at 22-16 with 7:45 left in the half. Taylor had a layup and a free throw, Adams scored on a follow and freshman Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) nailed a three-pointer as R-MC scored eight straight to push the advantage to 14 at 30-16 with 3:30 left. BC tallied five of the next six points to make it an eight-point game at 31-23 with 1:40 remaining. Turner converted a three-point play and sophomore Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) made a layup at the buzzer as R-MC took a 36-23 advantage at intermission. Taylor had 10 first-half points, while Turner and Adams both had seven.

After BC scored the first bucket of the second half, R-MC hit six straight layups, with Taylor and Adams both making a pair, as the Yellow Jackets built a 48-25 lead with 16:00 remaining. After a BC free throw, junior Jermaine Johnson (Akron, Ohio/St. Christopher) had a layup and sophomore Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) sank two free throws as R-MC took its largest lead at 52-26 with 13:30 remaining. The Yellow Jackets led again by 26 at 74-58 on a three-pointer by freshman Luke Neeley (Orange, Va./Woodberry Forest) with just under two minutes remaining before R-MC posted the 77-53 victory.

Adams posted a career-high 13 points with five rebounds. Turner and Midulla both scored seven, while Neeley nailed two treys for six points.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, January 11 at 7 p.m. with a home ODAC contest against Hampden-Sydney in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
