Field Hockey Falls to Lynchburg on Homecoming

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team were defeated by Lynchburg College 6-0 on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets (2-13, 0-6 ODAC) held the Hornets (8-6, 6-0 ODAC) to just one goal in the second period.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Thompson (Burke, Va./ Lake Braddock) made seven saves on the night, increasing her tally to 41 for the season. Thompson made a miraculous double save in the second period, stopping the Hornets from increasing their lead.

Lynchburg scored four goals in the first 22 minutes. R-MC then held LC to just one goal the remainder of the game. Nicole Simpao, Isabella Eldridge and Karissa LeMaire scored for the first place Hornets.

In the second half, R-MC were able to counter Lynchburg's pressure. Senior Katiee Nicholas, (Virginia Beach, Va./ Tallwood) and freshman Taylor Acevedo (Mullica Hills, N.J./ Kingsway Regional) both had shots that went just wide of the goal.

R-MC will be back on the field on October 26th when they travel to EMU.
