FOREST, Va. - Randolph-Macon senior Ryan Burns (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) was named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week and junior Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) was ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office.
The pair helped the Yellow Jackets rally for a 56-28 victory over rival Hampden-Sydney in the season finale in Ashland, Va. R-MC improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in league play, good for second place in the ODAC standings.
In his final collegiate game, Burns led all players with 15 tackles, including 10 solo stops. He had four pass breakups to raise his season total to 16, the top mark in the ODAC.
In the second half against the Tigers, Burns had a key interception for the Yellow Jackets. R-MC scored on its initial possession of the second half as the home team took its first lead at 28-21. After H-SC drove to the R-MC 18, Burns picked off a pass at the goal line and returned it to the R-MC 39. The Yellow Jackets would reach the end zone eight plays later and expand their lead to 14 at 35-21.
The versatile Hoy recorded 170 all-purpose yards against the Tigers. As a runner, he took direct snaps as well as handoffs. Hoy carried the ball 21 times for 93 yards and had five rushing touchdowns, one away from the program record. He had eight receptions for 77 yards. Hoy completed a 29-yard pass to tight end Sam Tanner in the second quarter. Hoy also had a pair of tackles on special teams.
Hoy had the first two touchdowns for R-MC, tying the game at 7-7 and 14-14. He scored the final three TDs for the Yellow Jackets, extending a 35-28 lead to the final of 56-28.
