Frederick Rushes for 269 Yards as R-MC Football Outscores BC 52-28

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Junior Tre Frederick (Angier, N.C./West Johnston) carried the ball 18 times for a career-high 269 yards and four touchdowns as the Randolph-Macon football registered a 52-24 ODAC victory at Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) had 50 rushes for 449 yards, and had three players record more than 90 yards on the ground. Junior Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) had nine carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns, while senior JP Redmond (Midlothian, Va./Monacan) rushed 11 times for 91 yards.

The R-MC defense stopped BC on its first possession and the Yellow Jackets took over on their own 14 following a punt. Frederick gained four yards on first down, then streaked 82 yards for the first score of the game, giving R-MC a 7-0 lead with 3:15 gone in the first quarter. The Eagles (3-2, 0-2 ODAC) fumbled on the first play of their next possession and junior Yonis Blanco (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) recovered on the BC 7. Hoy snuck in from one yard out to give the visitors a 14-0 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first period. The Eagles drove to the R-MC 30, but were stopped on fourth down. Frederick capped a 70-yard drive with a 42-yard TD run to give R-MC a 21-0 lead late in the first quarter.

BC would move to the R-MC 9 early in the second period and recorded a 26-yard field goal to make it 21-3. The Eagles reached the end zone midway through the second quarter to make it a 21-10 contest.

The Yellow Jackets would answer on their next drive, moving 75 yards in seven plays. Frederick sprinted 49 yards for the score to give R-MC a 28-10 advantage. The Eagles fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Yellow Jackets recovered on the BC 11. Frederick rushed six yards and then five yards for his fourth TD as R-MC took a 35-10 lead at intermission.

Hoy pulled in an eight-yard scoring pass early in the third quarter and freshman Chris Vidal nailed a 36-yard field goal as the lead grew to 45-10 with six minutes left in the third period. BC would add touchdowns late in the third and early in the fourth to make it 45-24. Hoy took a direct snap and ran 61 yards for the game's final score, making it 52-24.

Blanco paced the defense with seven tackles and had a pair of fumble recoveries.

The Yellow Jackets ran 61 plays and amassed 495 yards of total offense. R-MC held the edge in time of possession, 33:40 to 26:20.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, hosting Emory & Henry in a 1 p.m. ODAC contest at Day Field.
