Spiers Earns All-Valley League First Team Spot

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Randolph-Macon senior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) has been named to the 2017 All-Valley League First Team, in voting by team and media representatives.

Spiers made the team as a utility player. He batted .333 with three home runs and 19 RBI. On the mound, he posted a 4-0 record with an ERA of 0.78 and 27 strikeouts.

Spiers helped the Charlottesville TomSox win the South Division by 11 games with a 32-10 record.

Charlottesville will play for its first VBL championship in its third year of existence after sweeping a pair of best-of-three series. In a 3-2 victory over Waynesboro to reach the championship series, Spiers earned the victory, going 6.0 innings with seven hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts. R-MC senior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) put the TomSox ahead to stay with a leadoff home run in the fifth to snap a 1-1 tie.
