ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon sophomore shortstop Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) has been named to the national D3baseball.com Team of the Week after helping the sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets to an Opening Day doubleheader sweep of St. Mary's.
Butler was previously named ODAC Player of the Week.
Butler reached base in his first eight plate appearances of the season, with five hits and three walks.
In the opener against the Seahawks, Butler went 3 for 3 with two walks, two RBI, two stolen bases and one run in an 8-1 R-MC victory.
In the nightcap, Butler was 2 for 3 with one walk, one steal, one run and one RBI in a 9-3 triumph for the Yellow Jackets. Butler had a walk and a pair of singles before grounding out in his final plate appearance.
Butler went 5 for 6 on the day for a batting average of .833. With the three walks, his on-base percentage was .889. Butler paced the Yellow Jackets with five hits, three walks, three steals and three RBI.
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its sixth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the first Team of the Week of the 2017 season.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, with a 2 p.m. home contest against Marymount on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
