Butler Named ODAC Player of the Week for Second Time

FOREST, Va. - Randolph-Macon sophomore infielder Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) has been named ODAC Player of the Week for baseball for the second time this season after helping the 11th-ranked Yellow Jackets win three times this past week.

Butler went 7 for 12 (.583) with two doubles, one homer, three runs and six RBI. He had three multi-hit games and drove in at least one in each contest. Butler also handled 13 chances flawlessly in the field.

In a 12-9 victory over No. 23 Christopher Newport last Tuesday, Butler went 2 for 4 with two sac bunts and four RBI. Butler's RBI single in the fourth gave the Yellow Jackets a 7-2 lead and he added a three-run double an inning later as the advantage grew to 10-2

In Saturday's first game against Lynchburg, a 12-8 R-MC victory, Butler was 3 for 4 with two runs, one RBI and one steal. Butler hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. Butler had a bunt single in the eighth and scored on a double by junior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), part of a six-run inning for the Yellow Jackets.

In Game 2 of the doubleheader, Butler went 2 for 4 with a double, one run and one RBI in a 17-0 R-MC win. He had a one-out double and scored in the first to give the Yellow Jackets the early lead. Butler added an RBI single in a six-run third.

Butler is first on the team and 13th in the ODAC in hits with 39. He is second on the club and eighth in the league with three home runs. Butler is third on the team and 10th in the conference with 30 runs.

Randolph-Macon hosts Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC contest on Tuesday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
